Single-use plastics are items that can be disposed of after the item has been used once with it then being discarded. single use plastics can last 400 years in the environment.  The common items include packaging (for example tape and plastic wrapping), straws, bottles, and cutlery. which are causing severe pollution and toxicity in ecosystems and wild life.

Single use plastics represent nearly half of all plastic produced annually and it can take centuries to degrade while breaking into harmful microplastics. These plastics severely pollute oceans and ecosystems, with over 90% of plastic not being recycled

Statistics about single use plastics

For the accounts  50% of annual plastic production, which is roughly 400 million tons are produced yearly. Only 9% is recycled, while 11 million tonnes of single use plastic enter oceans annually. Because of this it kills over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals yearly, with over 70% of marine plastic coming from items like bottles, bags, and food wrappers
